doTERRA Aromatherapy Essential Oils for Autoimmune Disease

Why Do I Use doTERRA Aromatherapy Essential Oils for My Autoimmune Disease?

Everything created starts from basic elements.  For example, the Enbrel that I took for 9+ years is derived from Chinese hamster ovary cells to create a genetically engineered protein to suppress the autoimmune system.  The problem is the vast list of side effects when taking Enbrel or other medications.

Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants and have been used throughout history in many cultures for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits (Example:  Frankincense was given to the baby Jesus from one of the 3 wise men when he was born).  doTERRA Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils claim to have very little side effects.  For more information on how it all works, please watch their promo video below:

doTERRA Oils & Supplements I Use

Morning & Evening Supplements Taken with Food

As with any supplement, take one type at a time and test for a minimum 4 days.

  • TerraZyme (1) – Enzymes to help with digestion.
  • Alpha CRS+ (2) – Helps immune function & inflammatory response to oxidative stress in cells.
  • xEOMEGA (2) – Similar to fish oils, it helps joint function, heart health, and brain function.
  • Microplex VM (2) – maintains the cells by supplying vitamins and minerals commonly missed in diets.
  • Zendocrine (1) – Suggested by my naturopath, it’s a detoxification supplement.  My heart raced & I received a flare-up when using.  I do not recommend.
  • Except for TerraZyme, these supplements are sold together as doTERRA’s Life Long Vitality Pack.

    • Frankincense (4-6 drops, still testing) – anti-inflammatory to replace the Prednisone medication.
    • Peppermint (1 drop) – digestive blend to replace the Asacol HD.
      ..

Lotus-DiffuserWith an aroma diffuser (photo on left), I use 2 drops each of these oils for aromatherapy:

Do doTERRA Oils Work for my Autoimmune Disease (Initial Review)?

Since the timing of this post, I have been using the above protocol for a month. Before I was on the oils, I tried getting off Prednisone and had multiple symptoms come back the next few days.  On 2/19 I tried again by not taking any Prednisone at night and the usual 1/2 pill (5mg) daytime.  While the first morning was difficult, I am now able to manage my symptom and pains without needing the Prednisone again at night.  The next test will be next week when I get off Prednisone completely and the final major test for these oils will probably be a month after my body is in remission.  At that time, I will stop using the oils & supplements to see if there is a difference.

  1. Did the Frankincense and Ginger help you get off Prednisone? I am currently battling with hives that I have had for over a year now, the only thing that helps is Prednisone, but I don’t want to keep going back to it.

    • Josh,

I completely understand wanting to get off the Prednisone. I will be doing a review on the oils in 2014, but the short answer is “no”; I was quite disappointed in most of the oils overall. The Frankincense in particular was the biggest disappointment as I not only used the one from DoTERRA, but I got some personally delivered to me by a person who flew over to Oman (where most of it is made) to where I live. I tried in both the oils (ingesting and applying on skin) and burning the pieces – both neither worked. One thing you should know is my high levels of inflammation while being off of a biologic like Humira. If you have “lower” levels than what I did during my journey (view graph at https://100percenthealth.us/year1-2/2nd-year-autoimmune-review/#inflammation), the oils may work. But for someone with high levels, I don’t recommend the DoTERRA system.

      • Very glad to see your honest reply! I have two, possibly three autoimmune diseases and sunk $1000 into doTerra. The only thing I had happen was a rash every place I used the oils. (and yes I used a carrier oil) I’ll be exploring your blog to see if you have found something that does help 🙂

        • You’re welcome. Consistently I have found that the water kefir (for good bacteria) and acacia fiber (for soluble fiber) have worked really well along with a good diet without much grains. I have links on the right side of the page for each of these subjects. Hope that helps.

          • When trying essential oils, please keep in mind that it takes time and repeated use to achieve results. The body did not deteriorate to the current state overnight, and it takes months of using essential oils many times a day to affect change.

Application should be every 1-2 hours or so when addressing a particular issue. Also, the other pieces of the health pyramid include a clean diet, exercise, good sleep, stress management, and lots of clean water.

My husband has psoriatic arthritis, and has used Methotrexate for over 13 years. We’ve used doTERRA for 4 years. Although he did use the oils with much success, he was unwilling to change his diet, which was/is very high in fat with lots of dairy, meat, etc. He exercises regularly, and he sleeps fairly well. He forgets to take his Lifelong Vitality Supplements, and weeks go by and he does not take them. The oils helped him not get worse, and on a few occasions, he lowered his dose of medicine, or at least did not continue to increase it, which is the norm with that drug.

I know that his body would improve tremendously if he cleaned up his diet even a little.

Fast forward to July 2017, he started using hemp oil, a legal oil in all 50 states, and has weaned himself from the pharma drug he depended on for so long. He has no pain from arthritis, which was evident when he didn’t take enough meds, plus, he is more physically active.

He has continued to use the oils, but still, with the same diet, so if he wants better results by taking the Lifelong Vitality Supplements consistently and cleaning up his diet, he’ll have to make that decision.

We should all agree that every decision we make has a consequence, good, bad, or otherwise.

Having said all this, there is no magic bullet for any issue, and using doTERRA Essential Oils has been a blessing in our home. It’s our lifestyle, not just something we use to manage one particular issue or disease. With oils, the body is seeking balance, and because they work at a cellular level, they have to be reapplied often because our cells are constantly renewing.

I would have suggested DDR Prime to the protocol given, because it’s so powerful at the cellular level. When dealing with inflammation, the body is looking for ways to heal, and inflammation is telling the body that something is not in order. Impacting the cells is basic, as is the diet. Everything begins in the digestive system. Every outward expression of illness, inflammation, pain, skin disorder, all of it, begins in the gut.

I hope this helps someone in their journey to better health.

  2. I would love to find a 10 ml roller bottle recipe that I could make up for my sister who has Lupus. Her’s affects her kidneys and lungs. She is having a very bad flair up right now. Is there a roller bottle recipe she could apply to her adrenal glands??

  3. Hello!
Can i ask an update from you? You have not written a post for a while if I see well.
I would like to know if you managed to deal with your disease, what is the status of that, did the Doterra oils finally work?
Any new Way of healing did you find?

    Thanks a lot!!

    • Hello Gerda,

Since 2015 I’ve mainly been on a maintenance system and continue to eat healthy, always trying to resolve / streamline issues to resolve stress (I fail at times but learn), exercise (Yoga, swim when I want low-impact, and strength building), and Humira as needed. The DoTerra oils really didn’t help me out along with others who I gave some too. But they do smell nice 🙂

      • Thank you!
So still on the biologic therapy and its working as I am hearing..?
Ma brother has rheumathoid arhtirits and I am keen to find an alternative therapy but no real success yet…

        • Yes, the biologic is working for me but not nearly as effective without the healthy eating, stress reduction, and exercise. Everyone has their own path. Your brother can find a way if he keeps trying and isn’t too far in progression. The RA may not stop, but the symptoms can reduce to a functional (or better) lifestyle.

          • Yes, thanks. And Good you can manage to keep under control! Wish you the Best!
He just needs to change a biologic, hoping its gonna work. and yes, he needs to find his own Way…
            Thanks!
